An Introduction to BILD

BILD, part of Axel Springer, is Germany’s largest and most influential media brand. It reaches readers across the entire German-speaking world through both print and digital platforms.

The infographics team, a group of around 30 specialists, plays a central role in transforming complex topics into accessible, visually engaging stories. Their mission is to make information easy to grasp and relevant to readers, using every available form of visual storytelling, from motion and 3D graphics to interactive features.

The Challenge

Fragmented tools and limited flexibility

BILD’s editorial and design teams relied on multiple tools for maps, animation, interactivity, and print. Each platform came with its own constraints, which made creating cohesive digital stories difficult. The team needed a solution that could unify design, motion, and interactivity within one workflow. They wanted the visual quality of print and the freedom of motion design, but in a digital format.

The Solution

Vev: A platform for Immersive storytelling

In partnership with the Editorial Product Innovation (EPI) department, BILD tested several scrollytelling tools under strict technical and CMS requirements. Vev quickly proved to be the most flexible and compatible option.

It gave BILD’s creative teams the tools to merge design, animation, and interactivity in one place, while fitting seamlessly into their existing infrastructure.

With Vev, the infographics team can now create immersive, motion-driven features that bring editorial stories to life in entirely new ways.

“Each Vev project shows how collaboration shapes storytelling; no one builds a story like this alone.”

The Result

From static visuals to interactive experiences

Originally developed as a 3D graphic for print, the team used Vev to transform it into an interactive web experience. The result shows how traditional visual storytelling can evolve into something dynamic and engaging online.

  • Faster production: Projects move from concept to publication faster than before.
  • Higher engagement: Strong click rates, longer dwell times, and deeper scroll depth show that readers respond to immersive formats.
  • Better collaboration: Designers, editors, and developers now work together from the start, not in silos.
  • Peer recognition: The team’s work has drawn praise from across the media industry.

“Implementing Vev has brought our disciplines closer together and strengthened the culture of collaboration within our team.”
